The internal engineering systems were constantly tested by the growing user base. Over the next two years, the number of internal services at Uber would grow from 500 to 2000, and standardizing the monitoring of all these different services became a priority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After working with a variety of available tools, Uber\u2019s engineering team decided that something new needed to be built internally. Jaeger is an open source distributed tracing tool that provides observability features throughout Uber\u2019s microservices architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yuri Shkuro is an engineer at Uber, where he works on Jaeger and other infrastructure projects.
